How often should I clear my Mac's caches?

For most users, clearing browser caches monthly and user app caches quarterly is sufficient. System caches should rarely be touched — macOS manages them automatically. See our complete cache clearing guide for details.

Is it safe to use Terminal commands from your guides?

Yes, all terminal commands in our guides are tested on real Mac hardware. However, always read the accompanying warnings carefully, especially for commands involving rm (delete) or sudo (admin privileges). When in doubt, use the graphical Finder method instead.

Do I really not need a third-party cleanup app?

For 80–90% of users, macOS built-in tools are sufficient. Third-party apps are most useful for thorough app uninstallation (removing leftover files when you drag an app to Trash) and for users who prefer a single-click interface. Check our comparison tables in each guide for honest assessments.

Why is my System Data so large?

System Data includes caches, virtual memory swap files, Spotlight indexes, Time Machine local snapshots, and other system-managed files. Sizes of 15–30 GB are normal. macOS automatically manages this space. See our storage optimization guide for more details.
